For the Birds

A Karen’s Corner Blogette.

By Karen Dunn.

For those of you using up the last of your pumpkins and squash…lightly roast the seeds for the birds.  They should be gently broken up so that the little birds can access the seeds inside.

I put the seeds in plastic bags saved from my vacuum packed foods and lightly pound them with a wooden mallet to break them up.  The plastic is a little heavier than most plastic bags and it’s nice to find one more use for them before they go to recycling.

I sprinkle it around in the frozen snow and on the fence rails.  Birds seem quite happy to forage for it.

In this cold freezing weather the birds will appreciate your kindness.
